Summer Update

 Twain Harte Lake will open on Saturday, May 25th!  We hope you are ready for another awesome summer of swimming, beach time, Bingo, swim lessons, and enjoying all the traditional Twain Harte Lake activities you have come to know and love.  Here are the highlights:

Summer at the Lake

 Opening Day:  The Lake will open for the season on Saturday, May 25th at 9:00 am.  Hours of operation are 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.  The Gate House will be open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. 

 Annual Membership Meeting & BBQ:  Our Annual Membership Meeting will be held on Saturday July 6th at Twain Harte Bible Church, 18995 Twain Harte Drive, @ 9:30 am. The Annual Membership BBQ will be held later that evening from 5-8 pm in the snack shack area. A fun BBQ menu will be offered with Beer & Wine available at a no host bar. Reserve your two free tickets by calling our office - 586-4449,  or emailing –, or signing up at gatehouse. Additional tickets are $10 per person. We hope you can join us!

 Bingo:  Bingo will start on Thursday, June 13th at 5:00 pm at the Snack Shack and will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Tuesday, August 6th.  Thanks to Cameron McClean who will be Mr. Bingo again!  Bingo cards will be free again this year with a limit of 3 cards per player.  Fun prizes will be available for the winners.  Just show up, get your cards, and have fun!   

 Public Swim Lessons:  Our two week session of free swim lessons, open to the public, will be July 8 – 18th, Monday through Thursday from 9-10 am each morning. All swimming levels and abilities welcome. Signups begin on Monday July 8th at 9:00 am at the Gate House.

 Water Carnival:  Saturday August 3th. Sandcastle contests, swimming events and relays, face painting, games and more! Schedule of Events will be posted at gatehouse and on website (

 Star Shows: We plan to have two of our wonderful Star Shows planned for this summer, dates to be determined. Thank you to our fantastic hosts, Nancy and Dave Hoyt! These are held out on the Rock and start right at dusk. Bring a blanket and warm clothes. Dates will be posted at the gatehouse and on the website (

 Fishing:  The Lake has been stocked with trout again, offering fishing fun for all young people 16 years and under, after 6:00 pm off the dam.  Limit is 3 per person or 5 per family.

 Water Bikes & Paddle Boards:  We have our Water Bikes and Paddle boards for rent this year.  The cost is $10 per 30 minutes. A swim test is required for anyone under the age of 16 and all users must sign a Usage Agreement.  Additionally, an adult must give written permission for any minor child to use the bikes or paddle boards.  A short orientation is also required.  Information is available at the Gate House.

 Lifeguard Coverage:  Remember that lifeguard coverage is limited, particularly in early June and late August.  Watch for signs on lifeguard stands when lifeguards are not present.

 News from the Snack Shack:  The Snack Shack is getting ready for another great summer!  It will open, along with the Lake, on Saturday, May 26th.  Hours are generally 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, though hours may vary during the week when crowds are low. They will also be hosting 3 fantastic dinners with bands this summer, we have included a flier.  The snack shack will also be staying open late on the following Friday evenings: July 12, 26, and August 2, serving beer, wine and a full menu until 7 pm.

 Helping with the 4th of July Picnic and Water Carnival:  We are looking for volunteers to help with both of these activities.  If you are interested, please call Lauren at 209-586-4449 or send an email to 

 Renters: Please help us to educate your renters on Lake Rules and Admission procedures. We have posted our “Renter Packet” on our webpage for you to download and print and have available at your cabin for your renters; or you can pick up a packet at the gatehouse this summer. The three main things to make sure your renters understand are: No outside food or drinks, no coolers or tents allowed, and how to check in at gatehouse under either the membership name or address. Renter fees remain at $6.00 per person, per day.

 News from the Board

Annual Meeting:  Mark your calendar for the Annual Meeting which will be held on Saturday, July 6th beginning at 9:30 am at the Twain Harte Bible Church, 18995 Twain Harte Drive, @ 9:30 am. 

Lake Improvement Projects: To improve water quality, we have had an aeration system installed in the lake. We have also contracted with a water treatment company out of Groveland, the Lake Doctors, for non-hazardous regular maintenance and treatments as needed. We have developed an area on the East end of the beach specifically for the safe launching and storage of the increasing number of kayaks and stand up paddle boards at the lake. All patrons will be asked to launch and store any and all larger watercraft and flotation devices in this area for the day.

Beach repairs from the past winter’s storms are completed. We have our full schedule of summer activities and are looking forward to another great season Twain Harte Lake.

Annual Report and Year-End Financials

October 1, 2017 - September 30, 2018

General Overview: We had a great season last year with a full slate of activities. The membership BBQ was well attended. The water carnival was very popular and fun. We had Bingo, star shows, swim lessons and ended the season with our Survivor’s party. Lake attendance figures were strong. A high rate to home sales and membership transfers added to the reserve fund. Your Board of Directors and staff work hard to manage the lake and provide a great lake experience for the members.

Lake sediment removal has been delayed due to additional unforeseen requirements requested from the Army Corp of Engineers, which will require more time and money. In order to place the removed sediment, we need to submit a cultural resources study for area surrounding the lake, and a wetlands delineation study for both the project area and sediment disposal location. All studies must be completed before the permits for sediment removal are finalized and granted. We are working to obtain bids for these studies and will be reviewing them and moving forward. We still hope to be able to start the project this fall. We plan to have more information and definitive answers in time for our Annual Meeting in July.

Water Quality continues to be one of our top priorities. The Lake Association has contracted with the local company The Lake Doctors. They will provide monthly monitoring of water quality and lake water treatment as necessary. They will also be installing an aeration system which will de-stratify the water and add oxygen. This will create a healthier water system and reduce the buildup of organic material on the bottom of the lake.

Financial Reports: The attached comparative Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Statement that constitutes our financial report to members for the 2017/2018 year. They were prepared by Patrick Weseloh, Twain Harte Lake Association Treasurer, and reviewed by Carlson, Haff and Associates Certified Public Accountants. The signature of the Treasurer at the conclusion of this document verifies that the reports constitute a fair representation of the financial activity of the Lake Association for 2017/2018 year. Please note the following:

• The Balance Sheet reflects normal operating activity for the prior year. 2019 will be the last year of payments for the 2015 Special Assessment for those that chose the 5 year payment plan.

• The Profit and Loss Statement shows income of $632,234.87 and expenses of $413,055.14 with net income of $219,179.73 most of which will be added to reserves to help fund future major expenses. The increase in income can be attributed to robust house sales and an increase in renter income even with a reduction in the cost of the fees.

Letter from Your Lake Director

Happy New Year Lake Family! I hope this finds you well. We have started to look forward to our 2019 Season and are excited and ready for a full & fun summer. We will be continuing our traditions with our Annual meeting and membership BBQ on July 6, our free swim lessons the second two weeks in July, our Water Carnival the first Saturday in August, and our Snack Shack will be hosting some fun dinners and bands throughout the summer.

• It is time to pay your annual membership dues – an invoice and return envelope is enclosed in this mailing. A second item may be listed on your invoice for those who are on the Special Assessment payment plan. Payment is due upon receipt and must be paid no later than May 1st. Please send your check as soon as you can.

• We are working towards a paperless newsletter system for our members. Please include your email on your invoice in the space provided to help us cut down on paper and mailing costs for our future. All invoices and ballots will continue to be sent as hard copies by mail.

• We will have a fantastic returning lifeguard staff this year, but are always looking for additional motivated and hardworking lifeguards and swim lesson instructors. • We are always looking for volunteers to help with both the Annual Membership BBQ (Saturday July 7) and the Water Carnival (Sat.
